TEXTING THAT SAVES LIVES - Marina G.M.

TEXTING THAT SAVES LIVES

Nancy Lublin defines mobile phones as a lifeline.

She explains that she texted with teenagers to help them in her social defense organization and that she found that they told her their problems , many of them related to bullying , eating disorders and even sexual abuses.

At this moment, she realized the importance of texting, that teenagers spend a lot of time sending text messages, that by texting teenagers feel much more comfortable and safe to tell their problems than by voice calls or in an office.

Thanks to this new initiative, it would be much easier for the organization to help them, not only giving advice for common problems, stopping ang changing these situations.

The purpose of her speech is to make us see that new technologies can also help us, they make people feel save, brave. She has checked that it works and she will put it into practise, it is a step forward for her job.

The power of introverts by Susana Cain (Irene Vezzoli)

THE POWER OF INTROVERTS BY SUSANA CAIN (IRENE VEZZOLI)

Susana Cain, an important writer, starts explaining that the first time she went on a summer camp, when she was nine, her mother packed her a suitcase full of books. To her, it seemed like a natural thing to do because in her family, the principal group activity was reading all together.

The very first time she took one of her books out of her suitcase, the coolest girl in the room asked her why was she so antisocial. In that moment she felt very sad and confused because she didn’t think that liking books was synonymous with being antisocial. Days passed by and the teachers continued saying to her that she should work really hard to become an extrovert girl, so she ended up thinking that she had a problem with her personality.

Susana explains this personal story to reflect one of the most important society’ s problem. Nowadays, people tend to think that extrovert people are better than introverts, just because they have more facility to speak in public or because they are more charismatic, but that’s not true. The only difference between them is that introverts feel more comfortable in lonely places, and they prefer to work alone, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

To conclude, I would say that the main purpose of her speech is encouraging people to respect other people personalities, don’t try to change them and accept them as they are.
