Samuel Cohen: Alzheimer's is not normal aging
In this TED.COM talk, Samuel Cohen, who is a research scientist explain us the history of Auguste Deter and he's husband Dr. Alois Alzheimer.
Auguste Deter was the first patient to be diaginosed as an alzheimer disease by he's husband.
Now, 114 years after Auguste Deter died, we still have no cure and nothing that can help the Alzheimer patients, nothing that can slowdown the symptoms and the inevitable dead.
Samuel Cohen wants to explain to everyone that Alzheimer patients can't defend her rights by their own, so there is not many people caring on about this desease. So it must be everyone who have to help in developing a new cure for this.
Of the ten first causes of death worldwide, Alzheimer is the only one that we can't prevent, cure or even slow down.
Samuel Cohen says that society have been confusing Alzheimer with an aging issue, but it's not true, we can cure it.
Finally he shows us an experiment with some drugs given to an Alzheimer patient, and they actually work, so it's not that far a cure for it, but we need the help of everyone to make the drug perfect.
We have to pressure the governments, the pharmaceutical industry and the scinetists to research in the Alzheimer cure.
I personally choosed this talk because i have a grandfather with alzheimer and when i saw the title it made me get in the video and watch it, now i know that a cure for this disease is possible and not that far away, so people coming behind in next generations will be able to get a cure that my grandfather can't get right now.
I really liked this talk and it made me think a lot, also i got some hope from the scientists comunity because they are not that far from a cure for the Alzheimer, it would be a very nice advance for all the society to have this fatal desease solved.
